It may be one of his biggest hits, but "you can have whatever you like" doesn't apply if you are a woman looking for rap star T.I.'s vote for president:
"I can't vote for the leader of the free world to be a woman."
This week, T. I. said women are unfit for the presidency because they "make rash decisions emotionally -- they make very permanent, cemented decisions -- and then later, it's kind of like it didn't happen or they didn't mean for it to happen."
As a woman and hip hop fan, I take great issue with T.I.'s comments. They're offensive, insensitive, and wrong. Oprah Winfrey agrees: she told the performer, "honey child, hush your mouth."
T.I. has since issued a standard celebrity apology on Twitter, but we still need to drive home the importance of women's equality for all female hip hop fans and women everywhere.
An apology doesn't cut it for women like me, or for women and girls around the world. Please join me in telling T.I., who is worth millions, to put his money where his mouth is and support a world where sexism doesn't stop women and girls from being leaders by donating to League of Women Voters.
